Aristobulus of Britannia, c. A.D. 37

Aristobulus of Britannia, the first recorded Bishop to the Britons:

Aristobulus of Britannia

Aristobulus of Britannia (one of the 70 disciples referred to in Luke 10 and saluted by Paul in Romans 16:1): Aristobulus was a Levite (a member of the Jewish priestly tribe), and he was Saint Peter‘s father-in-law. He is said to have been consecrated as the first Bishop to the Britons and who is said to have been followed to Britain by his brother Barnabas. Like the others, Barnabas returned, but Aristobulus is said to have met a martyr’s death in the mountainous heart of Wales.
